I receive support in kind from Yarra For All Inc which supports Independent Candidates putting their hand up to run for the 2024 Yarra Council elections.
I have asked family, friends and other supporters to make any donations to the Yarra For All bank account.
The many donations made by the community have been pooled together to pay for printing of flyers, leaflets and posters for Independent Candidates.
As an Independent Candidate, I don’t get any support from a Political Party.
As you can imagine, it’s very expensive to run.
This is one reason why many local residents can’t put their hand up to represent their community.
Many of the Independent Candidates have pooled their donations together into the Yarra For All Bank account to access volume discounts for printing costs.
The “Yarra Council Needs Change – Vote Independent” poster has been very popular.
All independents, irrespective of whether they are pooling their donations or not, are promoted by this.
The ‘in-kind’ support will be detailed in my Candidate Return to the Electoral Commission.
This approach opens up democracy to independents—such as low-income workers or single mothers—who might not otherwise have the financial means to run.
It brings democracy closer to the grassroots level and ensures it’s more representative of the community, rather than being dominated by well-funded party politicians.
