Council voted to support the development at the Gasworks site in Fitzroy North at the corner of Alexandra Parade and Smith Street.
This is a State Government managed project that will bring in 1200 new apartments to complement the new senior school (Wurun) and the multi-level indoor sports and recreation facilities (Bundha).
Most importantly 20% of the new apartments are for affordable and social housing.
All this is due to a decade of advocacy and pressure from local residents on the State Government and is the legacy of Richard Wynne, our former local member.
You can call us locals many names but NIMBY is not one of them.
